Wu Man and Friends: Chinese Tradition and Musical Collaboration

Wu Man, a master of the chinese lute (pipa) was joined by fellow musicians Yang Yi (zheng) and Haruka Fujii (percussion) for an evening concert at the Moonrise Pavilion during the 2014 Folklife Festival.

The music of Wu Man is featured on two Folkways albums; she has performed with Yo Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, and has spent the last thirty years promoting chinese traditional and contemporary music through performance and composition.

LUZIA!!!

Pesquisadores do Museu Nacional, no Rio de Janeiro, anunciaram hoje (19) que encontraram o crânio de Luzia, o fóssil humano mais antigo das Américas, com quase 12 mil anos. Oitenta por cento dos fragmentos de ossos do crânio e do fêmur já foram identificados. O material estava desaparecido desde o incêndio que destruiu o palácio da Quinta da Boa Vista, no começo de setembro. A peça só resistiu ao fogo porque estava protegida dentro de uma caixa.

Stela para as Rainhas Tetisheri e Ahmés Nefertari, Faraós guerreiras do Egito no final da 17a. Dinastia, responsáveis pela unificação do país, das Duas Terras do Alto e do Baixo Egito,  que estava invadido e separado pelos hicsos. Foram elas que "deram à luz" a gloriosa 18a. Dinastia do Antigo Egito.

The Ministry of Antiquities announced the discovery of two sandstone Stele in the Temple of Kom Ombo in Aswan.

The discovery was made on sunday by Egyptian archaeological expedition. The latter was working on the groundwater reduction project at the Kom Ombo temple in Aswan when it discovered two sandstone stele that belonged to King Seti I and King Ptolemy IV.

That the first stela is 2.30 meters by 1 meter and and 30 cm thick. It was found divided into two parts, but the hieroglyphic inscriptions were preserved in good condition.

The second stele is 3.25 meters by 1.15 meters and 30 cm thick. It was also found broken into several parts and was referred to the restoration team at Ministry of Antiquities.

The first painting represents King Seti I standing in front of Horus, god of the sky, and Sobek, the crocodile god of the Nile.

The second stele was of King Ptolemy IV, standing and receiving a stick with a decoration of Horus while his wife, Arsinoe III, stood behind him.
